Fraunhofer ICT-IMM Profile

Fraunhofer ICT-IMM (based in Germany) has established itself as an internationally recognised service organisation for research and development in microtechnology.  The main focus of research and development is in the fields of chemical process technology and engineering e.g. Decentralized and Mobile Energy Technology, Fine Chemistry, Microfluidic Analysis Systems, Medical Sensor Systems and Microtechnology for Nanoparticles. 
Applicable business areas encompass fields such as Energy and Environment; Fine Chemistry and Process Technology; Aviation and Aerospace; Biomedical and Industrial Analytics.   We build a bridge between basic research and application because our developments include all aspects of the value chain i.e. starting from an idea to the point of their realization and implementation into custom built and market-ready applications.  
The working areas of the Decentralized and Mobile Energy Technology Department are solutions in the area of hydrogen technology and renewable energy sources and micro-structured components for heat management. Core competences (but not exclusively) are the design of complex process engineering devices, integrated micro-structured plate heat exchanger technology (temperature range -250°C to 900°C), development of catalyst coatings, testing of laboratory to pilot-scale micro-structured reactors and heat exchangers.

 

Contribution to BIOGO

Fraunhofer ICT-IMM contributes to many aspects of Biogo.  First and foremost, ICT-IMM is the overall Project Coordinator and is responsible for the efficient administration (including financial and legal) of the project.  The administrative and management of Biogo falls under the auspices of WP9.  From a technical perspective, the role of ICT-IMM is primarily in the area of (integrated) catalyst and reactor development.   ICT-IMM is also WP2 leader “Conversion of Syngas to Methanol and DME”.  Finally, ICT-IMM has a major role in the mini-plant setup (container provision/reactor development/setup).
