INEOS Profile

INEOS is an internationally recognized research establishment, where the chemistry of organoelement and macromolecular compounds is developed. Its reputation as a scientific centre in chemistry is very high both in Russia and abroad. At present INEOS is a large research centre with 664 employees, including 564 scientific researchers, among them 77 Professors (Dr.Sc.) and 248 Ph.D. researchers. NEOS includes 38 laboratories and 18 research teams. The results of scientific research carried out at the Institute since 1995 are summarized in about 2000 scientific papers and 16 monographs. For the past five years, mutually beneficial contracts have been established with numerous Universities, Institutes and Industrial Centers in Russia and abroad.

The INEOS group is highly experienced in organic syntheses and macromolecular chemistry, in particular in the design and characterization of nanostructured polymers, hyperbranched polymers, dendrimers and metal-polymer nanocomposites with controlled structure and morphology. These materials exhibit high catalytic activity and selectivity in a number of important catalytic reactions. The members of the group have also an extensive experience in syntheses of various thermally stable heteroaromatic functional polymers, functionalized magnetic nanoparticles for various applications and in development of nanoparticulate catalysts based on polymers or mesoporous inorganic solids. The group has skills in characterization of such compounds by NMR, FTIR and UV spectroscopy, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, gel permeation chromatography, elemental analysis, dynamic light scattering, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, etc.

 

Contribution to BIOGO

The role of INEOS group is primary in the area of the development of magnetically recoverable nanoparticulate catalysts for conversion of syngas to methanol and DME, conversion of methanol to hydrocarbons, and direct upgrading of bio-oil into higher alcohols and fuel components. For this, INEOS-RAS will first synthesize highly thermally stable hyperbranched polyphenylenes with side pyridyl substituents and polyphenylquinoxalines of different composition and structure. These polymers will be used as capping molecules for stabilization of magnetic nanoparticles, which, in turn, will serve as support for the development of magnetically recoverable catalysts. Catalytic species such as CuO, ZnO, CuO-ZnO, Ru, Pd, Pt or Ni nanoparticles will be formed in the polymer shells of the magnetic nanoparticles. Also, fully inorganic catalysts based on functionalized silica, aluminosilicate and zeolite supported on magnetic nanoparticles will be developed.
